As the owner of Sussex Healthcare in West Sussex, Dr. Shafik Sachedina has dedicated his medical expertise to helping to provide quality medical care to the aging, elderly, and disabled residents of Sussex County. Sachedina’s philanthropic efforts have been recognized on a global scale, both through his healthcare work and his volunteer work in the Ismaili community.
Born in 1950 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Dr. Sachedina came to England in 1975 to study dentistry at Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School at the University of London. He has since become a British National. Sachedina specialized in dentistry and oral surgery, but later chose instead to focus on residential care. In the 1980s, Dr. Sachedina co-founded Sussex Healthcare.
Sachedina is one of seven board members for Sussex Healthcare and currently serves as Joint Chairman. As an elder care nursing facility, Sussex Healthcare provides various programs, therapies, and recreational activities for its residents. Sussex Healthcare also provides care for residents with dementia, neurological conditions, and other physical and/or learning disabilities.

This means Sussex Healthcare does more than provide elder care. Among the many neurological conditions treated at its facilities are Acquired Brain Injury, Huntington’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease, and Spinal Cord Lesions. Sussex Healthcare also offers a wide variety of therapies for disabled patients.
Dr. Sachedina is also heavily involved in the Ismaili community. Along with his role as Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions of His Highness the Aga Khan, he has volunteered with various other Ismaili organizations. He was even introduced by the Aga Khan to the President of Portugal as Head of Community Affairs among five global representatives of Ismaili Imamat.
Among the other Ismaili organizations Sachedina has volunteered for are the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Coordinating Committee, the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom, and the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina has displayed a great dedication both to his patients and his faith. Though he studied dentistry, he chose instead to provide facilities for residents of Sussex County in need of round the clock care. He has also spent countless volunteer hours representing the Ismaili community throughout Europe and Asia in countries like France, Portugal, and Bangladesh.
