Daniel Taub, tthe Ambassador of Israel to Britain, recalls a visit he took to the city of Bradford during a time when George Galloway, the MP of Bradford West, claimed the city to be an “Israel free zone” in the middle of a speech he was making. Taub showed up to Bradford after he was invited by some of the members of its community, and during his visit, he met with councilors, leaders of faith, and other groups of people.
The comments made by George Galloway that no tourists, services, goods, or any academics from Israel were allowed in the city surprised Taub, because he found a completely different story when he visited. Read more: Daniel Taub | Ideamench and Daniel Taub | Crunchbase
What he found, instead, was that Mr. Galloway didn’t speak for the people of Bradford and that people of all faiths were getting along just fine in the city.
The police in Britain started an investigation that took a closer look at Galloway after his speech, which caused many people to respond with frustration on social media. During that speech he, literally, made the claims that the people of Bradford didn’t want anyone from Israel, in any capacity, to come to its city.
He went as far to say that tourists to the city coming from Israel should rethink doing so. Galloway went on to call Israel a “barbarous” and “savage” state and urged others to do the same.
Daniel Taub spoke with the Telegraph & Argus and expressed that Galloway should take a closer look and realize that the conflict in the region is not related to a conflict between Shia and Sunni or the political left and right but really is more about the past colliding with the future.
He urged the man to not pull the region back into a dark past but join the fight to move it forward, instead. While Taub continues to work for peace, others doubt if anything will change George Galloway who has a history of being bigoted towards the state of Israel.
On top of refusing to even debate a political opponent because of their Israeli heritage, Galloway has also put out to the public strange conspiracy theories involving Israel. One of them supposes that the country was at the bottom of causing problems in the Ukraine as well, and Galloway even went as far to make the claim that Israel was giving chemical weapons to Al-Qaeda, which he denied making later.
Daniel Taub continues to work for peace despite these comments and misrepresentations of his home country.
