I think that as the world is getting more interconnected, the harder it is for us to understand the actual costs and risks of such technological advancements. This dilemma has not been better dealt with than in the operations of Securus Technologies, a leading tech developer in social justice tech and criminal administration in the world. The civil justice tech solutions offered by Securus have been provided all across the United States, but that doesn’t mean that there are no longer challenges that Securus would be facing.
The NBC 6 Story
One of the many significant and landmark stories that Securus Technologies has so far encountered is the one about Robert Johnson. This news was already featured by NBC 6, and it’s one of the best examples today of the significant threats of technology in the prison system today.
Robert Johnson works for Lee Corrections Facility, and he was so good at his job that he got his life threatened. You could get too good at a job, of course, but not as life-threatened as Mr. Robert. The thing is, he got into the hands of the wrong people. He once confiscated a bag of goods that was worth thousands of dollars. That was from a malicious group of people, and that is just the beginning of the story.
Weeks later, Robert was shot in his house. His family was threatened, and his entire life could have hit the bucket. It turned out that a cellphone got inside the prison cell and because Robert confiscated the package from that person, he caused some grudge and triggered that man’s syndicate to generate a threat to his life. Fortunately, Mr. Robert survived the shooting, and the shooter was already put to justice. Today, Robert Johnson is now part of Securus Technologies, and he now helps in the company’s attempt to improve the security system in prisons.
The Wireless Containment Solutions
In addition to the cellphone getting inside the prison feature above, another shock came on the radar of Securus Technologies: the Facebook Live Feed inside the prison. With a contraband cellphone that got inside the prison, an inmate was able to live stream a Facebook live show, which is one of the most shocking modern events in the history of prison technology news.
To address this concern, Securus Technologies has initiated what is called the Wireless Containment Solutions. This is a large-budget program that aims to prevent calls from entering into or coming out of prisons. This program will detect and prevent unwanted calls. This would avoid any calls from connecting to a wireless network, which was what happened with the Live Stream issue. Honestly, with this technology solution, I think Securus can sustain its position as the leading law enforcement tech provider across North America.
