Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer is a 45-year old native of Porto Alegre, RS. He is a grandson of the legendary Brazilian entrepreneur, Mr. Mauricio Sirotsky Sobrinho, and a nephew to Nelson Sirotsky, a great entrepreneur of his time. In a nutshell, Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer comes from a family that has been in the Brazilian entrepreneurial space for a combined period of not less than half a century.
Mauricio Sirotsky Sobrinho established the Rede Brasil Sul (RBS) Group in 1957 as a news and entertainment media company. The company grew with time to become the leading media conglomerate in Brazil, with over 20 radio stations, three newspapers, and several TV stations. Currently, RBS Group boasts more than 6,000 employees and revenue in excess of R $1.5 billion. Since Mauricio retired from active entrepreneurship, the leadership of RBS has been handled by his children until his grandchild, Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer, took the reins a couple of years ago.
According to Dino, in readiness of taking up leadership roles at his family business, Eduardo Melzer had to go first pass the test of academics. He, therefore, enrolled for and graduated with a BA from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul in 1998. He then took his quest for academic excellence further by pursuing an MBA at America’s most prestigious university, Harvard University. Melzer also spared some time during his days at Harvard to pursue two media-related short courses.
Before going back home after completing his studies, Melzer decided to first test his skills in American companies. He sought and secured employment with companies, such as Box Top Media, Family Communication Network, and Delphi Corporation.
Eduardo Melzer made a debut in RBS Group in 2004 as a director general for the company’s National Market. He became an executive vice president in 2010, and a couple of years later, he became the executive president. He then assumed the presidency of the company’s Board of Directors.
